Precise Levelling & Monitoring
Precise levelling and repeat surveys to detect movement in slopes, structures and walls
Precise Levelling & Monitoring
Precise levelling and monitoring surveys tell you whether a structure, slope or wall is moving, how much and how fast. We fix survey targets and levelling points to the asset, take a baseline reading, then return to take repeat readings and compare the results. Depending on the risk, visits might be daily, weekly, monthly or every three months.
Much of our monitoring work is on the railway, where cuttings and embankments on hillsides can be prone to slipping, but the same approach works on bridges, buildings, retaining walls, fence lines and any other asset you need to keep an eye on.
Precise Levelling
Digital levels and closed level runs to measure small changes in height, such as settlement of buildings, bridges and track beds.
Movement Monitoring
Total station and GNSS readings on fixed targets to track movement in slopes, embankments, retaining walls and structures.
Clear Monitoring Reports
Each set of readings is compared with the baseline and previous visits, with any movement highlighted so you can act early.
How Precise Levelling and Monitoring Work
For changes in height, we run precise levelling between fixed levelling points and a stable benchmark, closing each run so any error is measured and controlled. For movement in position, we use a total station and GNSS to measure fixed targets on every visit, with drone surveys and laser scans where you need a wider picture of the ground or structure.
Results are processed and reported quickly after each visit, so engineers can decide whether action is needed. If it is, our sister company Matrix Consulting Engineers can provide the engineering assessment and remedial design.
Why Choose Matrix Advanced Surveying for Levelling and Monitoring?
Our surveyors hold PTS for working on the railway, so we can monitor track-side assets safely. We set the monitoring frequency with you based on the level of risk, and flag any significant movement as soon as we see it.
Fixed targets and consistent survey control mean every visit is measured the same way, so real movement stands out.
From daily readings on an active slip to quarterly checks on a stable structure, we agree the monitoring schedule with you.
Our surveyors hold PTS and understand how to work safely on and around the railway.
Significant movement is flagged as soon as we see it, giving you time to act before it becomes a problem.
Direct access to the civil and structural engineers at Matrix Consulting Engineers for assessment and remedial design.
